I am not tested out fully this one yet (I am doing it nowadays soon) this online game is from 2002, its made by the creators of Xcom, but it failed becouse of the subscription BS. Now it is abandonware. It is even has a Map editor also. And you can test it on local multiplayer on the same machine. But for online multiplayer you'll need an smtp server with particulal settings...
Laser Squad Nemesis is a PVP Game, based on the old C64 strategy game with an isometric upgrade. It can be played thru an email server with a minimal hexa editing and using a python server+SMTP, i did not tested yet on windows i dont know if it is even possibble to run on windows, or it is just linux. The game basicly its an Aliens vs Humans/Robots turn based strategy like Xcom games.
There are instructions on smtp server and whatnot in txt files in the archive but you need to do check the python files for configuring to your smtp server(It is recommended to setup a hmailserver) If i can i will make a portable version of it right now i am setting up this thing, i just thought i will share it.
It need some config editing, and hexa editing the main Client exe check for documentations for details. It is not hard really... The hardest part is the smtp part i guess...
Just to be clear: IT is a PVP online game with NO General AI!
What is in the Pack:
- Client (Iso) + Patch(Separate exe)
- Master server, and some TXT files. READ THEM! And use common sense for setup.
- Client can be Localised to any language with changing the encoding in notepad++ and any character it can be used in language folder.
- It is easily moddable since the art/sound is not encoded, and lot of stuff in this are contained in a plain cfg files...
BUGs:
Becouse the client is old, it is cannot handle fullscreen mode anymore!!!
But it runs is fine in windowed mode. Even Maximized!
If you crashing when clicking manage games button just fill in your email username and password.
Also : Amongst some other things, few of the features it is not working... But there is the source code ofthe server so... if any one want... hint hint XD but it can be generally played normally as it is stated in the readme and docs
Have fun for all who want to mess around with this. And the credits of course goes to the maker for the master server emulator, and others:
- Solodky
- Warchief
- Jaques Cartier
